Shopping in the Smoky Mountains

The Tennessee Smoky Mountains is known for the beauty of the mountains and for the great attractions, but it is also a shopping mecca with hundreds of unique stores and great outlet shopping. And as you might guess, it is an inspirational area and many artists call the Smokies their home and they represent the area with magnificent painting, creative sculptures and unique jewelry, accessories and quilting.

Let’s start with the unique shops and products that you can find in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Townsend, Tennessee. The area is blessed with the Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community where over one hundred artists and crafters are designing and creating unique and memorable pieces every day. The community is located a few miles outside of downtown Gatlinburg and is a pleasant drive that will take you from one craft business to a painter, a broom-maker or one of the small communities of artist businesses.

Pigeon Forge has dozens of unique shops including the Incredible Christmas Place, the Southeast’s largest Christmas store. Most of the shops are on the Parkway but three strip malls are on Teaster Lane that runs parallel to the Parkway. Also on the Parkway is The Island, home of the Great Smoky Mountain Wheel, The Island Show Fountains, Margaritaville and 23 acres of shops, restaurants and entertainment. Located in The Island is Emery’s 5&10, the South’s oldest 5&10, which is packed with unique gifts from throughout the United States and the World! For doll collectors there are two fun shops, American Girl Doll and the Doll Clothes Factory.

In addition to the Arts & Crafts Community, Gatlinburg is the home to the Mountain Mall, The Arrowcraft Shop, Baskins Square Mall, several Moonshine distilleries, Smoky Mountain Winery, the outdoor outfitter NOC Gatlinburg, and dozens of sweet treat shops. There are several well-known Smoky Mountain artist galleries on the downtown strip, and plenty of “Malls” that access the main Parkway like Market Place Mall, home of Mr. Tablecloth and More.

Sevierville is the home to the area’s largest Outlet Mall, Tanger, where you can shop in over one-hundred stores, eat and snack the day away. Governor’s Crossing Mall is nearby with a Books-A-Million, clothing and shoe stores, a scrapbook store and several restaurants within walking distance.

Wherever you choose to shop in the Tennessee Smokies, you will find interesting, fun and unique stores to find the perfect gift, souvenir, household item or fashionable clothing as reminders of your trip to the Smoky Mountains.
